PMET-2008 BRIEF

BABA FARID UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

This University observed repeated advertisements appearing in the press from agencies/individuals assuring guaranteed seats in Govt. and Private Medical Colleges.  It had also received many queries regarding these advertisements and the possibility of impersonation had been expressed to the University against such assured admissions.

As  precautionary measure this University on the one hand informed the Police of such activity  in this matter and on the other, it devised several precautionary steps to check any malpractices in the PMET-2008. Consequent to the exercise of such measures the University successfully spotted 25 cases of impersonation, some of whom did not turn up at the University despite repeated efforts to call them  for counter checking. These 25 cases have been handed over to the Police and their candidature in PMET-2008 has been cancelled.

Besides this, all the candidates of PMET-2008 were required to carry an additional attested photograph similar to the one deposited by them along with their application form, to their respective examination centers to be deposited with the Center Superintendents. Whereas about 95% candidates complied with these instructions, the remaining approximately 5% candidates failed to deposit the said photo in the prescribed manner.

Whereas these candidates were allowed to appear in the PMET-2008, but they were issued notices by the Center Superintendents to deposit the prescribed photographs personally in the University for cross checking and whereas the result of these candidates was declared provisionally and in the individual result this condition of cross checking was incorporated on the University website.

The time given to the candidates for compliance was extended to 4.7.2008 and whereas 296 candidates failed turn up despite all efforts on the parts of the University to have them comply. Out of these 296 candidates only 5 candidates have secured qualifying marks ( i.e. 50%) and it appears in view of their failure to qualify the test they avoided  to come to Faridkot for counter checking. Under the circumstances  the University was left with no other option but  to cancel their candidature for  non compliance of the mandatory condition.

Besides the above, with the spirit of transparency and fairness the candidates were given a right to inspect their respective OMR response sheet and/or right to rechecking/re-evaluation. Only 20 candidates applied for the rechecking / re-evaluation out of which 9 also desired to inspect their answer sheets.

Whereas a  special committee of Senior Officers was constituted to check each and every answer sheet individually. No discrepancy was detected. Therefore the result of all of these 20 candidates remains unaltered. The University is inviting the said 9 applicants desirous of inspecting their respective answer sheets on 8.7.2008 at 11 am for the said inspection.

The University shall continue making all out efforts to contain malpractices in the field of Academics at all costs specially with the help of those who stand for values even today.
